In November, District 35 art teachers and students were invited to decorate particle board trains for the Rio Rico Rotaryās 1st Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony held at Garrettās IGA on the evening of November 25th.
Shortly after the 6 x 4-foot trains were delivered to each District 35 campus, art students and their teachers created unique designs, transferred them to their respective train cars, and painted them. The Rotary provided the materials and manpower that went into building the train, and Sodexo graciously donated the paint and brushes.
āAll I can say is wow!ā Those were the sentiments of District 35 Community Outreach / Co-curricular Coordinator, John Fanning when he saw finished train cars on display.
āIt was a neat project and the kids got into it,ā said Mountain View art teacher, Mark Dittmar
whose Cartoon Club painted a train car complete with passengers, Christmas graffiti, and a midnight snow scene. āBut I hope Santa doesnāt take too much notice,ā he whispered, āotherwise, next year heāll recruit the Club for his North Pole workshop!ā
Mountain Viewās Cartoon Club is in its fourteenth year as a tax-credited funded, extracurricular class.
Meeting after school and during the summer, the class provides students an opportunity to rub shoulders with other art-minded children and develop their talent. For more information on how to support any of the Districtās clubs with a refundable tax credit, please contact Mrs. Yamil Palafox at 375- 8270 or any school secretary.
